How to Care for NORLUA

The things closest to us do not remain untouched.

They collect the warmth of a hand.

The dust of an open window.

A faint trace of the room in which they have been living.

This is not always damage.

Sometimes it is simply evidence that an object has entered a life.

NORLUA was made to be lifted, heard, displayed, and returned to. Caring for it is not an attempt to keep time away. It is a way of meeting its materials with attention, so that the small marks of use do not become neglect.

The Bowl After an Ordinary Day

The NORLUA bowl has a brass core, a sandblasted surface, a custom color finish, and a top layer designed to reduce everyday fingerprints.

After use, a soft tissue or clean, soft cloth is usually enough. Wipe lightly across the surface to remove dust, fingerprints, or the faint residue left by the hand.

The finished bowl is not afraid of brief contact with water. If you use a lightly damp cloth, dry the surface afterward rather than allowing moisture to remain.

Perfume, essential oils, hand cream, perspiration, and color from nearby objects may transfer to the finish. They do not need to become a source of worry, but they should not be allowed to stay for long periods.

Care works best when it is small and regular.

A clean hand.

A soft cloth.

A moment before the bowl returns to its place.

When a Mark Remains

Some traces disappear with a dry cloth. Others ask for slightly more attention.

For a visible mark or color transfer, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a soft tissue or cloth. Do not pour alcohol directly onto NORLUA.

Move gently over the marked area. Then use a clean, dry part of the cloth to remove what remains. If the mark is still visible, repeat the light movement instead of pressing harder.

Use alcohol only on the finished surface of the bowl.

Keep it away from the suede Playing Stick, the rubber head of the Wooden Mallet, the Wooden Resting Base, and the Presentation Box.

Do not use abrasive pads, metal tools, bleach, harsh household chemicals, or aggressive polishing. NORLUA is not scratch-proof. A sharp edge, rough metal contact, or determined scrubbing can leave a mark that cleaning cannot remove.

When wearing rings, bracelets, or watches, let the hand approach with a little more care.

The Playing Stick

The Playing Stick is wrapped in suede, a material that holds softness partly through the way its surface fibers remain open.

For ordinary dust, use a clean suede brush or another clean, soft brush. Move gently. There is no need to flatten the surface or force it back into looking new.

Do not use rubbing alcohol, harsh cleaner, leather oil, dressing, or polish. Do not soak the suede.

If it becomes lightly damp, allow it to dry naturally in the air, away from direct sunlight, a radiator, hair dryer, or other heat.

The Wooden Mallet

The Wooden Mallet carries its own small passage of time.

Wipe the wooden handle and rubber head with a clean, dry cloth. When necessary, use a very lightly damp cloth and dry both parts soon afterward.

Keep the rubber away from alcohol, solvents, oils, high temperatures, and prolonged direct sunlight.

Over time, air may give the light rubber head a slight yellow tone. This is a normal cosmetic change. It does not need to be bleached, polished, or scrubbed away.

If the rubber becomes sticky, cracked, deformed, or loose, stop using the mallet and contact NORLUA.

The Wooden Resting Base

The Wooden Resting Base asks for very little.

Wipe it with a clean, dry cloth. For a more visible trace, use a very lightly damp cloth and dry the wood promptly.

Avoid soaking it, leaving it in a humid place, or exposing it to strong sunlight and direct heat. Wood responds quietly to its surroundings, even when the changes are not immediately visible.

Where NORLUA Rests

During the day, NORLUA may remain on the Wooden Resting Base in a stable indoor place.

For longer storage, return the complete set to the Presentation Box. The box is not only part of the first opening. It is the place where the bowl and its tools can remain together, protected from dust, light, and accidental contact.

Keep the box in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.

The outer transport case belongs to the journey. It protects NORLUA during shipping and movement. The Presentation Box belongs to what comes after: gifting, keeping, and returning the object to rest.

The Difference Between Wear and Neglect

An object that lives with us will not remain identical to the day it arrived.

The rubber may warm slightly in color.

The suede may begin to remember the hand.

The bowl may ask for a soft cloth after an evening of use.

These changes do not lessen the object.

Care is not the removal of every sign of time. It is the difference between allowing materials to age and allowing them to be forgotten.

Lift NORLUA with clean hands.
